Size Change Performance Monitoring

Size change is an important part of the rolling operation. The rolling production is suspended temporally while changing the product. This change could involve draughting, pass change, roll change, stand change or even line change. Depending on the number of changes, the change time could be from a couple of minute to hours.


The change time could also be influenced by many other factors such as man management, crane management, stand build-up, change procedures and controls etc. Any mistake will result the overrun the size change and time loss.


In order to minimise the time loss on the size change, the size change is monitored as soon as mill is stopped. The change time is recorded against the standard size time that could be determined by the number of changes and the longest task such as shear blade change.
This module also provides the analytical function to monitor the size change performance in order to identify the issues in the change.


The other important function is the concept of the ‘Settle’ time after the change. In the ideal situation, once the change completed, the mill should roll smoothly immediately. However in reality, it takes a bit longer time for the mill to achieve its potential production rate after a change. This period is called the settle time.


The settle time is measure automatically. It is an indicator whether the changeover is carried out smoothly.  It is also a factor of the quality of the tasks carried out during or before the changes, rolling crew skill level and standard procedures.

This module provides the useful tool for the managers to organise and monitor the size change more efficiently.
